Adolescent Primary Treatment Program

Description

The Adolescent Primary Treatment Program is designed for adolescents and young adults exhibiting behavior that suggests a pattern of alcohol and/or drug abuse.  That is, a pattern of drug and alcohol use which is negatively affecting several areas of their lives.  They may have made poor choices involving peers, family, school, within the community, or legal system.  The Adolescent Primary AODA Programs focuses on growth and development issues, specifically abstinence, dealing with peer pressure, and positive decision making skills.  The client is expected to show positive growth in all areas of their life, including relationships with peers, new hobbies and activities, and, or course abstinence.  The process will involve individual and group therapy, videos, discussion, and lecture.

Group sessions are 1 ½ hours in length.  The client may attend treatment 1-3 days per week, depending on personal need.  Once the client has demonstrated the ability to use recovery tools, they can be "stepped down" to less frequent attendance.

Program Goals:

The Client will:

  • Develop an understanding of chemical dependence and the 12-Step Process
  • Develop an understanding of his/her problematic pattern of substance use, which leads to impairment in social and psycho-social functioning.
  • Gain working knowledge of personal symptoms of tolerance change and withdrawal symptoms.
  • Identify loss of control, including taking larger amounts of the chemical than intended (increase tolerance), and failed attempts to control his/her use.
  • Identify how all life areas became impacted, more and more, due to chemical use; and how other activities became less and less important.
  • Recall how he/she uses defenses to defend chemical use and protect and cover-up feelings.
  • Identify feelings and develop strategies to deal with feelings.
  • Identify need for development of a support network and create a continuing recovery plan.
  • Demonstrate ability to deal with psycho-social situations that are stressful, as seen by continued abstinence while attending therapy.
  • Demonstrate changes in behavior as exhibited in group and individual therapy.
  • Verbalize the use of recovery tools leading to personal growth.
